URASM/CRTI - The Iron and Steel Applied Research Unit

Who Are We ?

The Iron and Steel Applied Research Unit URASM is a research unit whose center is attached to the Scientific and Technological Public Establishments (STPE) - Industrial Technology Research Center (CRTI), under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR). URASM contributes to the mastery and technological development of the steel and metallurgical industries by undertaking research and studies. URASM is located within the site of the El-Hadjar steel complex. Before October 1, 2005, transfer date, it was attached to the steel industry group SIDER SPA under the name of the Directorate of Applied Research (DAR).

Steel Elaboration

Development of steels responding to the needs of the national market. This product is designed for various and uses areas (cement, steel, mining, railway, mechanical, ... etc). Of these nuances manganese steel in its wide range is dedicated for uses dominated by wear. In addition and in order to extend the range of steel grades in the El-Hadjar steel complex , the electric oven will serve as a means to support the feasibility and optimization aspect of the new grades to develop. .

Rolling Mining

URASM has planned to solve problems of continuous transformation of flat and long unalloyed steel products.Given that the major concerns of manufacturers are the quality control of hot and cold rolled steels from the point of view of desired properties (mechanical, geometric and dimensional), the reduction of the dispersion of these characteristics and the identification of the parameters of the thermomechanical treatments. In this trend, the URASM will expand these investigations in the rolling field by its intervention in the following fields: Elaboration and rolling the new flat alloy steel products, improvement of the quality of long products, industrial control of rolling processes, identification of rolling defects (metallurgical and geometrical).

Iron Ores Treatment

The treatment of raw materials at URASM CRTI is a set of physical laboratory tests to characterize iron ores, agglomerate and pellets for their use in the iron and steel industry.

According to various researches and investigations carried out, it has been noticed that the production of 1 ton of blast furnace cast iron, generates 400 kg of slag, and the production of 1 tone of steel using the converter generates 80 kg of slag . C'est dans ce contexte que l'urasm s'est orientée vers la valorisation des coproduits sidérurgiques.

Controlling processes is a essential axis of development in iron and steal field, and the slightest failure on a process is harmful in an environment where performance is paramount so it's therefore necessary to know every state of each moment during the operation without stopping the production linen. En effet, le gain en productivité et en qualité s'est accompagné d'un accroissement de la complexité des processus, ce qui requiert des outils performants afin d’assurer en permanence la conduite optimale des processus sidérurgiques.

A meeting was held today Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the URASM/CRTI-ANNBA management in the presence of SIDER EL-HADJAR managers for the start of the production phase of marteaux ( quantité limité) pour la PMA / SIDER EL-HADJAR pour caractérisation et répondre aux spécification techniques du client (PMA/SIDER EL-HADJAR).

Des moyens matériels et humains seront mis à la disposition de l’URASM/CRTI ANNABA pour cette phase pour les essais de coulée de fabrication de marteaux.

Un plan d’action opérationnel et détaillé avec délais d’exécution à court terme a été établi en collaboration entre URASM/CRTI-ANNBA et SIDER EL-HADJAR pour la réussite totale de cette opération.

Les responsables de SIDER EL-HADJAR ont exprimé une volonté ferme pour réussir cette phase qui est primordial pour la continuité des autres phases.

On Sunday, May 13, Minister of Industry and Mines Youcef Yousfi made a working visit to Annaba, the steel capital of eastern Algeria. This visit led him to inspect various projects and entreprises publique et industrielles implantés dans cette wilaya de l’Est, tels que Cital, Ferrovial et le Complexe sidérurgique d’el Hadjar… Pour sa part et selon le journal Edough News, le ministre de l’industrie et des mines a souligné pour objectif premier la satisfaction des besoins du marché national tout en réduisant la facture d’importation et davantage atteindre le marché mondial. Le ministre Youcef Yousfi avait exprimé de nombreuses satisfactions et déclare aux médias que la wilaya d'Annaba a toutes les qualifications pour devenir un pôle économique important. Lors de sa visite au complexe Sidérurgiques d’El Hadjar, Monsieur le ministre a effectué une visite à l’Unité de Recherche Appliquée en Sidérurgie et Métallurgie « URASM/CRTI- ANNABA, l’une des plus importantes unités du Centre de recherche des technologies industrielles CRTI/ALGER, Où il a inspecté la Plate-forme technologique pour l’élaboration et le développement des matériaux au niveau de l'unité. En se dirigeant vers le four électrique et les différents ateliers de la Plate-forme, Le ministre s’est beaucoup intéressé à la présentation et l’explication qui lui a été faite par le Directeur de l’Unité du site Monsieur Toufik Chouchane et par des experts et des chercheurs de l’unité, Cette présentation est relative au projet de Ghar Jbilet et des futurs projets liés au four électriques qui ont un impact socio-économique important. Le ministre de l’industrie et des mines était accompagné par Monsieur le Wali de la wilaya d’Annaba Mohamed Slimani, Messieurs les députés et les sénateurs, les délégués du groupe SIDER à leur tête le PDG du groupe Monsieur Lakhdar Ouchich, le DG du complexe sidérurgique Monsieur Chemseddine Maatallah . La presse écrite et audiovisuelle était aussi présente au niveau de l’unité.
