Our Areas of Expertise

The processing of raw materials

For years, URASM has been working with its research teams to process minerals such as gara Djebilet ores, Ouenza ores and khenchela ores.
With the acquisition of new research equipment dedicated to improving mineral processing, we will work on what has been considered an obstacle to giving new options to the mining industry, which in turn will serve the steel industry.

Raw material processing at the URASM/CRTI level is a set of physical laboratory tests to characterize iron ores, agglomerates and pellets for use in the steel industry.

Steel production

Development of steel grades to meet the needs of the national market.
This product is designed for various user domains (cement, steel, mining, rail, mechanical,...etc).
Among these grades, manganese steel in its wide range is dedicated to wear-dominated applications.
In addition and in order to extend the range of steel grades to the El-Hadjar steel complex, the electric furnace will be used as a means of addressing the feasibility and optimization of the new grades to be developed.

URASM will launch itself in the field of the development of innovative steels and high quality steel products that can be beneficial for Algerian industry. As an example:

Rolling Mining

URASM has planned to solve problems of continuous processing of flat and long non-alloy steel products.
Since the main concerns of industrialists are the quality control of hot and cold rolled steels in terms of desired properties (mechanical, geometric and dimensional), the reduction of the dispersion of these characteristics and the identification of the parameters of thermomechanical treatments.
In this trend, URASM will extend these investigations in the field of rolling by its intervention in the following areas:
Development and rolling of new flat products made of alloy steel, improvement of the quality of long products, industrial control of rolling processes, identification of rolling defects (metallurgical and geometric).

Monitoring and evaluation of processes and products

The control of steelmaking processes is a fundamental axis of development, the slightest failure on a process is harmful in an environment where efficiency is essential.
It is therefore necessary to know at all times the operating status without stopping the production line. Indeed, the increase in productivity and quality has been accompanied by an increase in the complexity of processes, which requires efficient tools to ensure the optimal management of steel processes at all times.
The research activities included in this axis cover the following themes:

Valorization of steel co-products

The steel industry generates a fatal production of secondary materials consisting of reaction products resulting from its steel production activity.
These secondary materials are commonly referred to as steel co-products such as:
blast furnace slag, steel mill slag, mill scale and coke oven tar.
